Just a quick update:

  1. A new order of Men’s Club Polo shirts (not playing shirts) are now available from the bar @ $34. I’ll be placing another order later and will include ladies style shirts, so please let me know what sizes need to be ordered?

    *   The bar will close at 7pm so you will need to pre-purchase your drinks and place in the supplied esky.
    *    NO sharing of food due to the COVID requirements

  3. To assist with signing in, when playing in the winter match events (Men’s Triples, scroungers etc) there will be sign-in sheets on the front desk. Just need to enter your time in and time out against your name. The register book must be used when accessing the Club on a casual basis for roll-ups and socialising.

  4. The membership renewal invoices were sent out a couple of weeks ago but some members have not received their invoice. If you have not received your invoice please contact the secretary and I will arrange for the invoice to be emailed.

  5. Your new membership cards will now be able to be collected from the bar rather than the pigeon shelves outside the Men’s toilets.

Thursday, 14 May 2020  11:00am

Just a quick summary following the Phase 2 restrictions announced by the WA Government and an update received from Bowls WA, dated 13th May.

  • The Club house, including the bar, remains CLOSED.   The Club’s greens are OPEN for Roll-ups by Club members only.    No visitors.
  • A maximum of ten (10) bowling members per green. Green fees will not apply.
  • Minimal shared equipment is allowed.  Used mats and jacks are to be rinsed in the designated bucket of disinfectant before returning to the trolley or mats hung over the fence.
  • Hand sanitiser to be used when entering AND leaving the Club, and after bowling.  Additional hand sanitisers have been installed around the Club and greens.
  • Members to complete the ‘Register’ when entering and leaving the Club.  This will include the volunteers undertaking work around the Club grounds.
  • Club bowls and umpiring equipment are NOT to be used.
  • Limit gatherings following the completion of bowling.
  • The greens are classified as being part of the Club’s licensed premises, therefore the consumption of alcohol contravenes our license and exposes the Club to fines during this period when the Bar is closed.
  • Reminder, drinking on the greens is NOT permitted.
  • Continue to observe the social distancing guideline of 1.5 metres.
  • In advance of the Club opening, volunteers working in the kitchen will need to have completed an on-line COVID-19 Hygiene training course.
  • The committee encourages members to download the COVIDSafe application onto their smart phones.  It’s a tool to assist notifying people if they have been in contact with a person who has been tested positive to COVID-19.  (The application uses Bluetooth NOT GPS).

Greens Re-Open for Roll-ups.

As a result of the State Government easing the restrictions for outdoor gatherings to ten (10) people, Bowls WA is supporting Clubs to open their greens for Roll-ups ONLY.  Bowls Australia has issued specific guidelines for Clubs to adopt.

The Rossmoyne Bowling Club greens will be open to Club Bowling Members ONLY from 12pm, Monday, 27th April 2020.

The Club has introduced the following guidelines if a member desires to have a roll-up.

  • Access to the greens will be via the side security gate only
  • The gate must NOT be left open, i.e. no propping allowed
  • A hand sanitiser has been placed inside the gate for members to use when entering AND leaving the Club
  • A hand sanitiser has been placed between A & B greens for use immediately completing your roll-up
  • Only A & B greens are available this week.  C green closed this week for maintenance
  • Only ten(10) members per green
  • Maximum of four (4) members per rink, i.e. pairs only
  • Each rink must have two jacks and two mats AND one person at each end nominated to pick-up the jack and place the mat
  • After the roll-up is completed, ‘used’ mats and jacks are to be rinsed in the designated bucket of disinfectant before returning to the trolley
  • Club bowls or umpiring equipment are NOT to be used
  • No organised games
  • Use every alternate rink, i.e. 1,3, 5 etc
  • Members must leave the Club once they have completed their roll-up, i.e. no gathering after bowling
  • Reminder: The Club house is CLOSED and the toilet facilities are located behind B green
  • Remember, to continue to observe the social distancing guideline of 1.5 meters

Members at a higher risk of severe illness (those over 70 and / or those with chronic medical conditions or compromised immune systems) are encouraged to remain at home whenever possible.

Please ensure you adhere to these guidelines if greens are to remain open and for the health and safety of your fellow members.

Full details of the Bowls Australia guidelines are available at:

Notice to All Members

Just a quick update on the happenings around your Club.

A big ‘thank you’ to the members who continue to ensure the greens and the surrounding gardens are being maintained in readiness when the Club can be opened.  Just a shame we cannot utilise our facilities.

Even though the Club is closed, for bar trading and bowling, the administration of the Club is continuing, albeit remotely.

The committee has decided to delay issuing any membership renewal invoices until such time as the Club is open for business and members can dust off their bowls and commence roll-ups with other members.

Further, access to the Club’s library will be available once a week, so you can swap your reading material.  The automatic doors will be secured but access will be via the club house hall doors.  Please note, only the club house will be open, NOT the greens, and remember to follow the social distancing guidelines.  The library will be open every Monday between 9:00am and 11:00am.

Stay safe and healthy.

Message for All Members

The closing of the Club, and greens, will likely have a significant impact on our lives.  The Club has given us the opportunity to play bowls, be it for a ‘roll-up’ or a game, and the fellowship with our members and friends during the game or afterwards in the Club house.

There are also members who volunteer their time during the week to maintain the Club and the surrounds – the bowling club is their “men’s shed”.  The Club is also possibly a key source of your social interaction.

As a result of recent Government directives, the Government and Health authorities, are asking people to stay at home and reduce their external gatherings to two people. which can make for lonely days, feelings of anxiety and increased stress.  As a committee, we are mindful that we should assist our members with relevant information in these uncharted times.

Below are some links that you may find useful to keep abreast of the latest information and guidelines for COVID-19.

Also, the Australian Psychological Society have released a number of online courses to assist Australians in coping with the challenging times we are facing. These courses are being offered free of charge for the next 3 months.

The flyers/courses are Maintaining mental health during social isolation and Coping with Coronavirus Anxiety  (Click on the links to view the flyers)

In addition here is an informative article from the John Hopkins University – COVID-19 regarding the virus that you may find interesting .

President’s Message To All Members:

Today, the Management Committee of the Rossmoyne Bowling Club met and, following the various decisions and recommendations from both the Federal and State Governments plus health groups, the Committee has decided that the Club will go into full lockdown, until further notice.  Please note that the Greens, as well as the Club House are now closed.  Entry to the Greens , via the side gate is no longer possible, as the gate has been bolted and padlocked.

Peter Chappell will disclose in more detail what this decision means to you, the members. To date, to the best of our knowledge, no member, staff member or family members have tested positive to the virus and I wish to make it clear that all of the Committee’s decisions have been made for the well-being of the staff, members and for the Club to survive this crisis.

Further, the Club is seeking approval from the Department of Mines, Industry Regulations and Safety to postpone the AGM, originally scheduled for May, to later this year. Putting aside the requirements of the Club Constitution for the time being, this means that the current Management Committee will remain in office until such time as social activities recommence. When this time arrives, and it will, the Club will need to move quickly to re-establish “itself”. It will require a new Management Committee and I urge members, during this period of isolation, to contemplate standing for a position on the committee or on a sub-committee.

On behalf of the Management Committee, I wish to thank members for their understanding and for complying with the directions of the Club during this period.

I really look forward to the day when we can resume our friendships at Rossmoyne Bowling Club.

  • The Management Committee has decided to support our permanent members of staff by paying their wage entitlements through to the end of April. This situation will be reviewed in due course as Government decisions and information becomes available.

  • All indoor gatherings to be restricted to 100 people, not an issue for the club with the cancellation of the major bowling events.
  • Social distancing – the “4 square metre” rule (2 metres between people), a Government directive, has been adopted. This restricts the Club to 55 people in the bar area and 50 people in the main hall.
  • Request “no hand shaking”.
  • All major hall bookings and social bowling functions, have been cancelled by the organisers.
  • Any future requests for social bowling functions or hall bookings, will be declined.
  • COVID-19 information sheets have been posted in the club, please update yourself, and will be updated once they become available.
  • The Bar will be open, but the opening hours are under review, with a decision next week.
  • The cleaning regimen has been upgraded and completed on a daily basis.
  • The Club will provide hand sanitizers and hygienic wipes, once stock becomes available.
  • The Friday nights raffle will continue.
  • The Sunday session, with ‘live music’, will continue, at this stage.
  • After discussion between the Club and the new caterers, who were scheduled to commence on Sunday 29th March, it has been decided to postpone the opening of ‘The Tree Café’ indefinitely, pending an easing of the current restrictions.
  • Bowling members, using the C Green lights, are requested to pay a $2 green fee per person. The fee to be deposited in the Honour Box located inside the back door of the Club.

The management committee’s priority is to ensure the health and safety of ALL our members, especially our staff, and any guests that use our facilities.

It is imperative, if you are not feeling well or showing ‘flu-like’ symptoms, you do not attend the Club and further, suggest you consider seeking medical advice. This will assist to minimise the risk of our staff, members or guests becoming infected.

The Management Committee will continue to monitor the information available from the respective agencies and will provide an update accordingly if further decisions are agreed by the committee.

On a positive note, congratulations to Michelle Armstrong and Brian Cranswick on winning the respective Club Championship Singles on Thursday.

Feel free to give me a call if you have any concerns.
